The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent the following letter March 12, 2020, to Church members worldwide.

Update: Gatherings of Church Members Temporarily Suspended Worldwide

Local leaders will counsel to determine how to make the sacrament available to members at least once a month

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As promised in our letter of March 11, 2020, we continue to monitor the changing conditions related to COVID-19 throughout the world. We have considered the counsel of local Church leaders, government officials and medical professionals, and have sought the Lord’s guidance in these matters. We now provide the following updated directions.

Beginning immediately, all public gatherings of Church members are being temporarily suspended worldwide until further notice. This includes:
  • Stake conferences, leadership conferences and other large gatherings
  • All public worship services, including sacrament meetings
  • Branch, ward and stake activities
Where possible, leaders should conduct any essential leadership meetings via technology. Specific questions may be referred to local priesthood leaders. Further direction related to other matters will be provided.

Bishops should counsel with their stake president to determine how to make the sacrament available to members at least once a month.

We encourage members in their ministering efforts to care for one another. We should follow the Savior’s example to bless and lift others.

We bear our witness of the Lord’s love during this time of uncertainty. He will bless you to find joy as you do your best to live the gospel of Jesus Christ in every circumstance.

Sincerely,

The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

The following messages were sent from Bishop Burnham to our ward members this week regarding the adjustment to church meetings during the Covid 19 outbreak:
As many of you have heard already, church gatherings, including sacrament meetings, have been canceled until further notice. Please inform your groups via text, email, or phone calls. Each ministering brother and sister is responsible to make contact with each individual or family on their list and report back to the Elder's Quorum and Relief Society Presidencies. We need to make sure that this information is relayed to each member of our ward. Thank you for assisting with this effort. More direction will follow as it is received.

With love,
Bishop Burnham

Due to the announced temporary suspension of meetings and activities at Church, we extend an invitation to each member of the Priests Quorum and Elders Quorum to administer the Sacrament to their families each week, beginning tomorrow Sunday, March 15th, until this temporary suspension is rescinded. This does not require two brethren, just a brother holding the office of priest, Elder or High Priest. Further, we invite each Ministering brother/companionship to reach out to their assigned ministering families especially those members that do not have priesthood authority in their homes and offer to visit their homes and provide the Sacrament each week. The letter from the First Presidency stated the sacrament should be received by each member at least monthly. Our Stake Presidency feels that with the small geographic boundaries of each ward in our stake that once per week would not be unreasonable.

Further please make sure that no sacramental groups are formed or other "unauthorized" meetings organized to fulfill this assignment. This ministering visit would be to only bless and administer the emblems of the Sacrament. No talks or music would be expected. I love you all and thank you for your efforts to bless the members of our ward family.

With love,
Bishop Burnham
